A Note From Madison Cooke
Madison Cooke is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHC-A) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) who specializes in working with children and adolescents. She earned her psychology degree from East Carolina University in 2018 before completing her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Play Therapy Certificate at UNC Pembroke in December 2023.
As a North Carolina native, Madison began her career as a Registered Behavioral Technician working with autistic children through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). She has experience supporting children and adolescents navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, adjustments, life stressors, and other mood and behavioral concerns.
Madison believes therapy should be individualized to meet the unique needs of each child and family. She draws from person-centered, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, and play therapy approaches, adapting her methods based on each child’s developmental level, strengths, personality, and goals. With a particular passion for play therapy, Madison recognizes the importance of allowing children to communicate and process their experiences in ways that feel natural to them. She is currently working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and continues to expand her training and experience in play therapy approaches. Madison strives to create a safe and supportive environment where children and adolescents feel heard, understood, and comfortable expressing themselves. She believes that “toys are children’s words and play is their language,” and uses play as a meaningful way to help children communicate and work through experiences that may be difficult to put into words.
