Attachment-informed trauma therapist helping adults untangle emotional overwhelm, reconnect with their bodies, and build practical tools for lasting change.
A Note From Akejah McLaughlin
Have you been feeling overwhelmed by emotions that hit all at once—too big, too fast, too heavy to carry alone? Maybe you’ve spent years trying to hold everything together, even though the cape you’ve been wearing feels far too heavy. Childhood and relationship wounds can leave imprints that still shape how you react, connect, and cope today. And when you try to explain what’s happening inside, the words don’t always come.
If this sounds familiar, I’m here to help. I specialize in attachment-informed trauma therapy for adults who feel misunderstood, overloaded, or stuck in patterns that began long before they realized it. My work integrates brain-body approaches like Brainspotting to support clients who struggle to communicate what’s happening internally — especially when the overwhelm lives in the nervous system, not just the mind.
I’m particularly attuned to adults who have carried emotional weight from a young age, including those who learned to stay strong, stay quiet, or stay busy to survive. I also support parents who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to navigate their child’s emotional world. In those cases, I draw from attachment-based parent work, including CPRT principles, to help caregivers feel more grounded and confident — but my primary clinical focus remains adult therapy.
My style is steady, warm, and collaborative. This is not just a place to vent — it’s a space to understand your patterns, reconnect with your body, and build realistic tools for change.
Outside the therapy room, movement, travel, and exploring new foods keep me grounded — and snacks are always welcome in session.
