A Note From Doreatha McCoy
Doreatha McCoy is a compassionate and dedicated social work professional with extensive experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families through some of life’s most challenging transitions. With a background spanning behavioral health, child welfare, foster care, care management, and clinical social work, Doreatha brings a well-rounded and trauma-informed perspective to her work with clients.
Doreatha earned her Master of Social Work with a concentration in Children and Families from Fayetteville State University and has continued to expand her professional knowledge through specialized training in areas including play therapy and military behavioral health. She is also a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate (LCAS-A) in North Carolina.
Throughout her career, Doreatha has worked with individuals and families experiencing a variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, family concerns, behavioral health challenges, and substance use. Her experience in child welfare and foster care has provided her with a deep understanding of the impact that trauma, family dynamics, and significant life changes can have on individuals and relationships.
Doreatha believes that therapy should be a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where clients can feel heard, understood, and empowered. Her approach is collaborative and strengths-based, recognizing that every individual has unique experiences, strengths, and goals. She works alongside clients to identify practical strategies, develop healthier coping skills, process difficult experiences, and move toward meaningful personal growth.
She is particularly passionate about helping clients navigate trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, family concerns, and substance use, while providing compassionate support tailored to each person’s individual needs.
Outside of her professional life, Doreatha enjoys spending quality time with her family, creating memories with the people she loves, and—when she has some downtime—settling in for a good Netflix binge! She believes that making time for relationships, laughter, rest, and the things that bring us joy is an important part of maintaining balance and well-being.
Doreatha’s goal is to meet each client where they are and walk alongside them through their journey.
